Are you passionate about the ocean and the outdoors? A summer internship or position at the Marine Science Consortium is the perfect way to gain environmental education and marine biology experience, and where better to do it than Virginia's beautiful Eastern Shore? 2012 Summer Jobs include: Adult and Family Program Assistants (May-August; 2 positions): help lead groups of all ages and teach a diverse array of topics that highlight the dynamic ecosystems of a barrier island, with activities that may include kayaking and canoeing, nature hikes, marsh-mucking, boat trips, campfires, science labs, seining and trawling, skit nights, marine organism collection, astronomy field trip, water testing and sampling, and island tours. You will also help to manage the high school intern and volunteer programs. Summer Camp Interns (June 11–August 27; 4 positions): responsible for overnight and free-time supervision of campers. You'll organize daily educational and recreational free time activities, coordinate schedules with MSC Educators, and organize a weekly citizen science program. You'll also gain knowledge regarding aquarium and field equipment use and maintenance, boat crew skills and boat safety, and group leadership in field, lab, and dorm settings. Compensation ranges from $200-$250/week plus on-station staff housing (furnished with kitchen), vegetarian-friendly meals, laundry, $15/month health insurance stipend and paid training.
