Chicago Sister Cities Network

Chicago is one of the most innovative and cosmopolitan cities in the world. As such, it’s no wonder that they use GoodBuzz to spread the word about their trade, economic development, cultural, educational and social services programs.

The City of Chicago, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of International Relations, formed the CSCIP (Chicago Sister Cities International Program). The mission of the CSCIP is to develop relationships with global partners who can ultimately benefit Chicago’s citizens by providing them with more educational and economic opportunities.

The CSCIP aims to increase international trade, economic development and support exchanges within the fields of culture, education, healthcare, social services, environment and technology. They cross-promote within its sister cities, with the help of GoodBuzz, for the benefit of the City of Chicago, its residents and businesses. Chicago’s 26 sister cities have a total population of more than 142 million people.

When Chicago has a business fair, or significant city event, the city sends a referral request to correspondents and chambers of commerce within its sister cities. After the sister cities have agreed to refer the event and have agreed on the number of flyers, posters, and other campaign materials they can distribute, the city of Chicago mails the requested material for distribution.

The sister cities report the amount of marketing material they distributed to the city of Chicago. Through GoodBuzz, Chicago has a detailed view of how the other cities are helping to attract visitors and qualified attendees.

The referral system is not limited to online referrals, (emails, banners, blog posts, linking). The cities used hundreds of their indoor and outdoor billboards to promote their peers events and campaigns. For example, some cities wrote articles in their local monthly print magazines.

When Chicago’s 26 sister cities promote its events, millions of people benefit. The network resulted in thousands of free impressions for Chicago-based events and huge international brand awareness.
